The first artmoney were made in Copenhagen, Denmark, 1997. Bank of International Artmoney, BIAM (the art project) was established in Copenhagen, Denmark, 1998. BIAM ApS (the company) was established in Copenhagen, Denmark, 2005. In 2007 BIAM joined forces with Internet auction house: Lauritz.com, who now is partner in the project.

Artmoney is an Internet based art project, where artists from around the world can issue “original artmoney bills” as a global alternative "currency" or barder object.

Artmoney measure 12x18 cm and is an original work of art by the artist hand. It has a purchasing power equal to 200 Danish Kroner (around 27 Euro or US$ 34) when first introduced and increase in value by five Euros per year for 7 years. The increased value can be realized only when purchasing art from registered art money artists.

"Spending" artmoney other places, the purchasing value will stay the same, no matter the year of production of the artmoney.

Artmoney can be used to "buy" art or services from all the registered Artmoney artists at up to 50%.

Artmoney can be "spent" in registered Artmoney shops and businesses up to a % set by the individual business.

Artmoney can be used as "payment" for accommodation at any Artmoney host.

Artmoney can also be spent at non-registered shops and businesses around the world where acceptance can be found.

An artist of any media can produce artmoney. The artist in application must forward one artmoney to the Artmoney office, complete, and send a registration form on the Artmoney web site. It is free to be registered as a Artmoney artist, but the initial artmoney will remain the property of the Artmoney project.

Artmoney exercise no censorship on artistic expression, but will not accept artmoney that do not meet the Artmoney requirements.

Artmoney ask the individual artist to limit the production of artmoney to the value represented by their personal production. If an artist has art in storage for 7.000 Euro the limit for artmoney production is set at 7.000 Euro.

There can be many benefits to “making money” and Artmoney will not limit the possibilities by dictating any specific applications or set agenda. Let it be up to the individual Artmoney artist to decide in which way this tool shall be most beneficial.

Artmoney hopes that artmoney can contribute to better conditions for the lives of many people world wide.

Artmoney does not protect the artmoney concept. Any one who wishes to copy the idea or invent an alternative to artmoney is welcome to do so. When this is said, Artmoney will not recognize artmoney made by unauthorized artists.

Artmoney ask for communication in English only. Artmoney is an International organization. Artmoney has chosen English as the language in order to communicate interactively with as many cultures as possible in the most efficient way. Please respect this wish in communicating on the Artmoney web site.
